A few years ago, the Lions Club Berlin launched a school bag campaign to facilitate a successful start to the new school year for children from needy families. Now the bags for the coming school year were packed. Contipark has donated 2,000 euros to the association’s project. The company also supported the campaign with manpower: Andreas Knops, member of the management board, helped last Sunday with filling the gym bags and school cones.
A total of 2800 colourful school bags and 120 school cones were stocked with all kinds of useful things by volunteers – including books, exercise books, felt-tip pens and sweets. The school bags were filled according to age: green bags for first graders, red bags for children from the second to the fifth grade and blue bags for high school students.
The campaign is intended to support families with school-age children who would otherwise have difficulties in purchasing the various school materials. From now on the school bags will be distributed via the “Laib und Seele” distribution points of the Berliner Tafel and in women’s refuges.
