CONTIPARK opens underground car park “Schildergasse” in Cologne

Just in time for Easter, the new CONTIPARK underground car park “Schildergasse” in Cologne was opened on 28 March 2018, in a prime inner-city location. It replaces the car park “Cäcilienstrasse”, which was built in the 1960s and dismantled in 2015.

Over the last two and a half years, an ultra-modern underground car park has been built on or rather under the area of the former multi-storey car park, which offers a total of 362 parking spaces on four levels and is now open around the clock every day.

State-of-the-art technology and low rates

The new underground car park offers its users many modern amenities. All parking spaces, marked in the special Contipark color design, have a width of 2.50 meters which is more than required by law. Thus, they enable uncomplicated parking even for drivers of larger car models. Two parking spaces are equipped with charging stations and can be used by drivers of electric cars to ‘refuel’ their vehicles.

Modern and environmentally friendly LED lighting technology ensures bright and equable illumination of the entire underground car park. The single-space detection is particularly convenient: It displays available, occupied and special parking spaces and thus leads the driver directly to the next available parking space. The underground car park “Schildergasse” offers all this at parking rates that are uniquely affordable in the centre of Cologne. One hour of parking costs 1,50 Euro, a day ticket is already available for 6 Euro. Also, the P Card service is available in the underground car park.

An active contribution to urban development

With the dismantling of the multi-storey car park and the construction of an underground car park, CONTIPARK followed the specifications of the City of Cologne. In its urban development concept, this envisaged making the exposed location of the former multi-storey car park a public living space again. Together with HOCHTIEF Projektentwicklung GmbH as project partner, CONTIPARK had therefore “lowered” the former “Cäcilienstrasse” car park, so to speak. In 2016, the contracts for the joint revitalization project were signed, which provides for a modern hotel complex with integrated underground car park. This hotel complex – located above the garage – is currently still under construction and should be completed by the end of 2018.
