Contipark takes over underground car park “Zähringer Tor” in Freiburg im Breisgau

The Berlin-based parking operator Contipark took over the centrally located underground car park “Zähringer Tor” on the northern edge of Freiburg’s city centre in February 2023. A long-term lease agreement was concluded with the owner of the garage. The company now manages a total of five parking facilities in the Black Forest capital.

The building, which was constructed in the late 1970s, is located on the corner of Habsburgerstraße and Bernhardstraße, not far from the Victory Monument. The mixed-use building complex includes office and retail space as well as flats in addition to the underground car park. The parking facility itself was renovated from 2014 to 2016 and offers a total of 212 parking spaces on two underground parking levels on the second and third basement floors, including spaces for people with limited mobility and women.

In order to offer residents and guests of the city convenient and central parking around the clock, Contipark has abolished the previously limited opening hours of the underground car park. From now on, parking there is possible 24 hours a day and seven days a week. Parking customers now also have the option of paying their parking fee cashless in various ways, including by debit card and Apple or Google Pay. Automatic number plate recognition ensures smooth traffic flows at the entrance and exit.

With a population of around 230,000, Freiburg im Breisgau is Germany’s southernmost major city. Numerous sights such as the Freiburg Cathedral attract several million visitors to the city on the Dreisam every year. This makes the “Zähringer Tor” underground car park, with its city centre location close to the pedestrian zone, an ideal starting point for both tourists and the city’s residents.

In addition to the underground car park now taken over, Contipark also operates four other properties in Freiburg: the car parks “Am Martinstor” and “Zentrum Oberwiehre” as well as the underground car park “Am Bahnhof P4” and the parking lot “Hauptbahnhof Wentzingerstraße P2” on behalf of DB BahnPark GmbH.
