After a construction period of about 15 months, the car park operator Contipark took over the management of the car park “Sellhorststraße” north of Gelsenkirchen’s main station again on 4 January 2021. The old multi-storey car park of the same name previously stood at this location. After its demolition in autumn 2018, a new, modern real estate complex was built here. In addition to the multi-storey car park, this also includes 27 publicly subsidised, barrier-free flats as well as office and retail space.

Contipark had acquired the multi-storey car park, which was built in 1980, together with 14 other properties as part of the takeover of the parking business of the mineral oil company FINA in 1990. Since the car park’s 570 parking spaces had not been used to capacity for some time and commercial space was vacant, Contipark looked for a project partner in 2014 who would develop the new building in Gelsenkirchen’s city centre together with the company. With ADAC Westfalen, the city of Gelsenkirchen and the Gelsenkirchen planning office for architecture and urban planning Dr. Schramm und Partner, the right partners were found. Together they decided to demolish the old building and erect a new residential and commercial building including a multi-storey car park on the site.

In the heart of Gelsenkirchen’s city centre

For this, Contipark had previously sold its hereditary building rights for the site to ADAC Westfalen. A new “office of the future” including a test centre will open at the new location in spring 2021. By building 27 publicly subsidised flats, ADAC Westfalen is also fulfilling its social responsibility. Deutsche Bank will also move into the building as an anchor tenant. Contipark has signed a long-term lease agreement for the multi-storey car park with ADAC Westfalen.

State-of-the-art technology

The foundation stone for the new multi-storey car park was laid in September 2019. With state-of-the-art technology and a plus in service, it meets the high Contipark standards. The width of the approximately 250 parking spaces makes it easy to park in and out. In addition to eight parking spaces for people with restricted mobility, the new building also has 14 special parking spaces for women, which are equipped with camera surveillance and an emergency call function. A number plate recognition system ensures speedy entry and exit, and the pay stations accept cash as well as numerous cashless payment methods. Furthermore, the parking facility is connected to the Contiparks Customer Service Centre so that customers can be helped quickly and easily in case of questions and problems. There are also plans to connect the car park to the city’s parking guidance system.

Low-cost parking

The garage offers Gelsenkirchen residents and guests of the city favourable parking rates. The daily rate is five euros. With the P Card, Contipark’s free customer card, it is even reduced to three euros. The company also has a contingent of permanent parking spaces at the location. These can be booked immediately via the online customer portal www.mein-contipark.de.
