Despite the challenges that the German economy and with it the parking industry faced again last year, Contipark can look back on a successful 2021. Whether taking over new parking facilities, completing successful refurbishment projects or securing the long-term management of attractive city centre projects: Contipark has achieved a lot in the past twelve months.
A total of six new parking facilities were added to the Berlin company’s portfolio. In total, the company currently operates more than 570 parking facilities in Germany and Austria.
In Austria, Contipark took over the underground car park “Parkgarage am Paracelsusbad” in Salzburg in January last year. The company now operates a total of 22 parking facilities in the city of Mozart. Also at the beginning of the year Contipark took over the newly built car park “Sellhorststraße” in Gelsenkirchen. The new multi-storey car park was built in cooperation with the ADAC and is part of a new, modern real estate complex, which also accommodates commercial units such as the regional ADAC office.
Contipark operates two of the new parking properties on behalf of DB BahnPark GmbH: a car park at the railway station of Bad Endorf in Upper Bavaria and the P1 car park at the railway station of Lauf an der Pegnitz in Middle Franconia.
In Cologne last summer, Contipark secured the long-term continued operation of a total of nine municipal parking facilities, including the underground car parks “Am Dom”, “Breslauer Platz/Hauptbahnhof” and “Philharmonie”, by winning a tender from the city. In Salzburg, the company was also awarded the contract for the continued management of two existing properties.
The company successfully completed two major refurbishment projects in 2021. In Cologne, the “Opern Passagen” multi-storey car park reopened in August after extensive modernisation work. As part of the work, it had been equipped with new LED lighting, among other things, whose sustainable and efficient technology significantly reduces the parking facility’s electricity consumption.
In September, the “Lothringerstraße” multi-storey car park in Aachen resumed full operation after about one and a half years of renovation. Among other things, a number plate recognition system now makes it easier for drivers to enter and exit the car park.
The former Fürth underground car park “City-Center” was also reopened in September. Under a new name – the underground car park “FLAIR” – it completes the retail complex of the same name in Fürth’s city centre, which has also been completely renovated. In the course of the revitalisation of the property, Contipark bought about 40 additional parking spaces. Wider parking spaces, optimised drive ways and an individual space registration system make the underground car park “FLAIR” one of the most modern parking facilities in the region.
Two other parking facilities of the company were ESPA-certified last year. The “Martin-Luther-Ring” car park in Leipzig received this accolade, as did the “Turm-Center” car park in Frankfurt. With the ESPA certification, the European Parking Association (EPA) recognises parking facilities that meet a number of high quality standards and offer their users a safe and convenient parking service. In total, more than 80 of the company’s parking facilities already bear this seal, with more being added regularly.
But not only the number of parking facilities, also the number of P Card customers increased again last year, reaching a new high of 350,000 customers in Germany in July. In November 2021, the mark of 50,000 P Card customers was then hit in Austria. The free P Card allows its users ticketless entry and exit and cashless payment at many of the company’s parking facilities. In addition, it offers them attractive special rates in many places. Currently, the P Card service is available at around 450 Contiparks parking facilities in Germany and Austria.
The company plans to continue growing in 2022. New acquisitions are imminent.
